Sculpture by the pool
The pool is the most popular position and the one with the most ways to go wrong. Three things differ from the rest of the garden.
Water reflects, all day long
A work on the long side doubles in the surface of the water as long as there is no wind. That is the strongest effect a sculpture can produce on a plot, and it costs nothing extra. Provided it stands on the right side: opposite the main sunbathing area, not beside it.
Chlorine and salt water attack the material
Splash from a salt-electrolysis pool is more aggressive than sea air. Bronze takes it, and so does stainless steel. Corten steel belongs at least […] metres back from the water’s edge, or you get rust trails on the coping.

Safety
Wet feet, children, edges. With works that have sharp edges or pointed projections we keep distance from the coping, or we choose something else. Tell us who is in your garden over the summer.
The practical point
By the pool, always anchor, heavy objects included. A gust off the Tramuntana and a slippery surface are enough to tip a work over.
